This time, I'd like to introduce you to the Japan-only model, the Kawasaki Estrella.
As usual, I have made an introduction video, so please check it out.
Kawasaki's Estrella is a neo-classic. There used to be a motorcycle manufacturer called Meguro Manufacturing, which was later absorbed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The Estrella was developed based on the Meguro Junior series of motorcycles. The name of the model is Estrella, which means "star" in Spanish.
The engine was an OHV at the time, but has been changed to an OHC. It is an evolutionary version of the engine, with a different cam position. It is also a long-stroke engine, with a longer vertical movement of the pistons. It is not suitable for high rpm, but it has more torque and is easier to ride. It is less likely to stall and can be driven off-road.
Estrella also uses a lot of plated parts. This is partly to protect them from deterioration, but also to emphasize the design. If the parts are left in the rain for a long time, they will rust, but just cleaning them regularly will make a big difference in the longevity of the chrome.
The muffler in the photo was bought new, but the fenders and suspension are over 20 years old. The suspension is probably deteriorated, but somehow it is still functional.
Then we'll take a look at Estrella's history.
It debuted in 1992.
In 1995, the Custom and RS were released. The Custom had drum brakes front and rear and a separate seat. My Estrella is an RS.
In 2002, the 250TR was released.
In 2007, an injected model came out and the Custom and RS were discontinued.
They were discontinued in 2017, ending 25 years of history.
You can go 100km/h, about 63mph , but it's very hard on the motorcycle. I know it's putting a lot of stress on the motorcycle. It's only for emergency evasion.
By the way, you should be aware that cruising at 100km/h will reduce the oil level.Ideally, I would like to drive slowly at 60km/h, about 38 miles.
Finally, I will summarize the good and bad points of Estrella.
Good points
It is not tiring to ride.
You can fully enjoy the atmosphere just by driving at 60km/h.
The ride is light and you can enjoy the fluttering feeling.
It is easy to handle and does not stall easily.
The design is retro and has a nice atmosphere.
Bad points
No absolute speed or acceleration.
Easy to stall before warm up in winter.
Cam chain can be easily stretched.
The price has been rising recently, and theft is a bit of a concern.
By the way, since it has been manufactured for quite a few years now, if you are going to buy one, I recommend that you go for a older cab version. This is because it has fewer electrical parts, so it is easier to troubleshoot when it breaks down, and there are many ways to repair it. I don't think there are any injection version that are out of stock yet, but in another 5 years or so, the situation will change and more parts will become unavailable.
I continue to search for the real something. The content that is published on the burg is also available on Youtube. Please check it out if you like.
